Community Sign at Mic Mac Park

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Our sign has been up in the MicMac Park for over a year now.  It has been used well by the community.  It has informed the neighborhood about Maplewood events, School activities, Church barbecues, and even Welcome homes.  It has been a wonderful way to keep everyone informed about issues that we might not take the time to learn about.  Web sites are great, but everyone does not always have the time to look at them regularly.  This notice board does its job, by being a quick reminder or informer.

With our newest park, Salty dips being opened in September 2008, we will be getting a second sign to keep even more people informed.  The back of the sign is a bulletin board and is free for residents to use.  You are able to put up a notice about babysitting, lawn mowing, cake making, etc.  Also if you are running a business and live in Maplewood you can submit a business card to go on the back.  It is suggested that your submissions be laminated so sign remains readable despite the elements!

If you would like to put up a notice on the board please email Michele Boone at mmboone@eastlink.ca.

AGM – November 4, 2008

Everyone was asked to bring a treat for the AGM. So there can be a little socializing. Michele will do up a sign and email it to everyone so they can put it on there mailboxes. This should do all the area boxes. Denis will put up at Salty dips park also.

Ron is going to do the nominations at the meeting. Paul will run the meeting. Paul will print up the past minutes and an agenda.

Denis will take over as President. Paul and Yvonne have to resign, because they are moving. Sean will do ratepayers and money. So Karen you can hand over the reigns to Sean. Hooray for Karen!!!! Paulette will resign from Community Issues and more to Website Development/Communications!

These positions need to be filled: Vice President, Social, Community issues, Member at large, and youth representative.

I need confirmation about their positions from: Todd (recreation), Jane (secretary), and Isabel (member at large). If you could please let me know ASAP! So if needed we can try to fill positions at the AGM.

If everyone could show up a few minutes early to help set up the church. Then we do not have to pay for set up.

Sean, Ron and Paulette are inviting our new councilor, MP and MLA to the AGM. Someone will also invite School Rep.

We are asking that if people would like to bring a food bank donation to the AGM we will get them to the food bank. They are in real need!

Sign at MicMac Park

It is leaking on the back cork side and needs to be fixed. All the papers are getting wet and are unreadable. Ron is looking into what he thinks will work for the best price. I need some more extras for the sign. I will let Ron know and he will order them.

Web site Development

Triggers & Sparks has been contracted to complete the development of the Website. Paulette is spear-heading this development for the subdivision. Website will be www.maplewoodonthelakes.ca People were asked to write up some articles for the new web site. So far Paulette has one from Michele about the MicMac Sign. Please try to write them, so we will have some things for the new website when it is ready.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00.

See everyone at the AGM. November 4th at 7:00.

Street party

The Maplewood Street and park party will take place September 13th. It will also be a grand opening of our newest park Salty Dips. The Politicians have been invited and it is shaping up to be a fun day. It is from 1:30-4:30, with a rain day the Sunday after. We are going to need people to bring some garbage cans and tables. We are going to use Kaled Street this year along with the new park.

Glow signs has been contacted and we have a large bounce apparatus booked at $375. The choice was slim, because they are very booked. Ron may bring his basketball shoot and we will get some prices to give out. Along with the new park this should be plenty of entertainment. No bake off this year, we found participation was down last year.

AGM

We are booking the AGM this year at the Wesleyan Church this year. The $100 we paid for the fire hall last year would be put towards the street party. Melanie was checking with Told, which times were good for him, and he has corresponded and said the first week of November. Michele has asked Jane to look into the Church. Once the date has been picked we will start to advertise.

There has been some interest in positions from some of the neighbors. This is wonderful! We need some new blood to come aboard. Paul is moving out of the subdivision and some members have been involved for very long times, to make sure everything continues forward.

Mic Mac Park

This park had some people complain that it was getting in rough shape. They contacted the city and Gary Meade gave them $25,000 and a book to see what they would like to replace it with. We do not know at this point what had gone on. Once we finish a park it is HRM’s property. They are responsible for matinence, lawn mowing and garbage removal.

See everyone at the party September 13th.

Hello world!

Friday, October 10th, 2008

A fantastic neighbourhood to live – water, trees, wildlife, children, parks, playgrounds, bicycles, crickets, birds, family, friendship, schools, neighbours, good will, …. I could go on and on – these are just a few of the reasons why the residents of Maplewood on the Lakes have decided to live here!
