Review past minutes
Minutes from the 2006 AGM were discussed. Motion to approved by Isabel Wynn, seconded by Peter Molenaar. Minutes approved.
Financial Report
Karen Fraser distributed the financial report. We currently have $18 904.42 in the ratepayers account. In April of 2008 another $16 000.00 will be added to this account. See financial report. Motion to approve financial report made by Terry Macpherson, seconded by Tom Gill. Financial statement approved.
Social Position Update
Paul Madore gave an update on the social position, which is currently vacant. Amy Milligan, a local realtor, has offered to fill this position.
Proposed Recreation Project
We will have approximately $87 500.00 available for the two proposed projects. Approximately $36 000.00 from the ratepayers account, $20 000.00 from the HRM, and $29 500.00 from the province.
Todd Brayman gave a report on the proposed playground to be added at the corner of Cedarcrest and Khaled. It will be called Salty Dips Playground. It will be fashioned after a maritime theme with the playground equipment looking like a ship. It will be Henderson designed with 2 swing bays, 4 child motion toys and a surfboard. The equipment is designed for children aged 18 months to 12 years. The park will be fully fenced. A new sign will also be erected to inform people of community events. The site is approximately 100 feet by 95 feet, it is levelled and ready to go pending funding, which can be released next year. The total cost will be $75 000.00.
Sean Litle spoke to the BMX bike track, which is proposed for the Patterson Park field in the grassed area behind the tennis courts. The previous moratorium on bike parks in the HRM has been lifted and safety standards are now in place. Maintenance has also been addressed. The trails will be made of a clay dirt combination. We are looking to have parents and children in the area involved in the building of the project. Next year the HRM plans to have a crew to check out the bike parks in the region, currently there are six bike parks to be maintained. The estimated cost is $12 000.00.
New Business/Open Floor
Benches – Cathy Wood requested that some benches be added to Mic Mac Park. Also some maintenance is needed for the park itself. Discussed the possibility of putting benches at the public beach but that property is owned by the Water Commission and we are not permitted to make any adjustments to the property.
Ratepayers rates – the current rate collected from each lot is $50. Motion to continue the rate at $50 made by Paul Madore, seconded by Sean Litle. Motion approved.
Gary Meade will look into the status of phase three of the city water being brought into the subdivision.
Website – The website is now up and running. Go to www.HammondsPlains.ca and follow the links to Maplewood.
Ditches – HRM has taken over 70 km of roadway from the province, so they are now fixing the ditches. If you have any problems call 490-4000.

MLA Barry Barnett
If you wish to contact Barry Barnett call him at home 864-8666 or at the office 864-8669. He gets approximately 75 to 100 email/day, not the best way to get in touch with him.
MLA Barnett discussed concerns about the availability of ice time for Hammonds Plains residents. He’s hoping for enough desire to help develop a community centre in the future in our area. If interested go to the Government of Nova Scotia website, then Ministers, find his photo and then email him expressing your interest.
RCMP Presentation
Constable Lana Woodfine addressed the meeting to discuss how to keep our home safer. There have been 8 break-ins in this subdivision since January 2007. She made suggestions such as good lighting, keeping trees away from entrances, playing a talk show radio while you’re away, having an alarm and generally making it difficult for anyone to get in.
If you suspect your home has been broken into, call the police but do not enter the home so that you are not destroying evidence. It’s also a good idea to keep track of the serial numbers of your belongings. That’s the only way you have a chance of getting things back if they show up in the pawnshops.
City Watch is a great way to find out what is going on in the community. They can use fan out calls to get information out quickly to the community. Approximately 75 homes can be contacted in two minutes about things like a suspicious vehicle or a bear in the area. Sign up forms were made available for anyone wanting them.
